Gehennatron

Gehennatron grew out of the German commune movement of the 1960's. The organization’s initial base of operations was located in Munich and many of its earliest members were recruited out of the Sozialistischer Deutscher Studentenbund. Its original motivations were political but with the emergence of Lothar Klunt as the undisputed leader of the group soon after its formation, Gehennatron's activities and philosophical outlook took on more of a religious direction, of which musical expression played a central role. Klunt had developed an elaborate and esoteric system of beliefs based on the fundamental idea that all energy and matter are a product of vibrations that are variations on an original or primal vibration. Klunt maintained that it was possible to come into contact with that original vibration as well as it’s immediate descendants, and through this process "talk to God".

In 1968 Klunt approached jazz musician Duke Jizzerstein with the idea starting a record company to distribute and promote the music produced by Gehennatron during their "primal vibrations” rituals. This company was to be run by Jizzerstein with financial backing from Klunt. Jizzerstein agreed to create the company that Klunt envisioned and as soon as financing was forthcoming he recruited music industry veteran Jurgen von Falkenhayn to help run the company that they named "Music Recording Productions Industrial Industries". The initial focus was on Gehennatron recordings but after a few years von Falkenhayn and Jizzerstein began to sign other artists as the financing that they received from Klunt was more than enough to cover the costs of producing and releasing several more records than Gehennatron was creating.

Gehennatron flourished in the 1970s and 1980s attracting members and establishing branches all over the world, (referred to as “factions” within the organization). By the mid 80s their total international membership numbered in the 1000s. As with many closed societies there were several rumours about Gehennatron and much speculation as to what their true initiatives were. Over the years much of the wildest accusations cast against the group have been disproved or discredited.

On November 21st 1993 Klunt left Gehennatron headquarters in Berlin and has not been heard from since. This caused a great deal of anxiety in the Gehennatron community, and as a result it subsequently suffered several years of turmoil. Many member left the organization while some factions broke from the group to create their own organizations. Most famously several members of the Berlin faction severed ties with Gehennatron and created their own movement called Zionatron. In the process of doing so they recruited a significant number of members from existing factions all over the world including the entirety of the factions in Malmö and Athens.

As of 1997 Gehennatron has refrained from releasing any recordings. Communication with those outside of the organization has been scant, and information about their activities almost non-existent.
